How to Exercise Curiosity to Make Crucial Connections

I have a question for you: are you curious?

Not sure if that’s a trick question? Let me give you an example:

You’re coming home from work one day, and when you turn down your street, you notice a sea of hot pink flyers stapled to the beautiful trees that line your block.

How would you respond? Would the flash of color catch your eye, but not necessarily stop you? Or would you pull over immediately to get a closer look at what the flyer said? Maybe you’d start counting how many trees had signage on them, or perhaps you’d wait to get home to see if the tree in front of your house is included.

Now, here’s the bigger question: when you get home, would you take the next step to check out the flyer? Maybe call the number listed? After all, there’s no reason given for the removal, nor is there any other information beyond how to object to the action.

Chances are, you wouldn’t bother. We all know how frustrating bureaucracy is, and, as the sign says, the Tree Warden is only interested in hearing about pleas for tree clemency. Plus, there has to be a good reason for…
